5 Reasons to Install a Water Filtration System in your Home

One of the best investments we have made in our family’s health has been the addition of a whole home water filtration system. There are so many different brands & systems available, the choices can get over whelming. We ended up using a local MI company called Reynolds Water Conditioning Co.

When we were getting bids for our system, we found many companies were also trying to sell us a water softener. Because we had city water, a water softener didn’t really interest us. Just know there are other ways to achieve clean water without a water softener and the maintenance of adding salt to your system.

We ended up with a whole house Carbon Filter that removes a multitude of contaminants including: chlorine, VOCs, herbicides, pesticides & most heavy metals. In addition, we added a cartridge filter to remove smaller sediments in the water (an extra, not necessary at all). They tailored a custom system for our desires, which we really appreciated.

For our drinking/cooking water, we utilized a Reverse Osmosis system that goes to our kitchen sink, freezer for ice, and pot filler. This system removes the entire spectrum of contaminates such as fluoride, microplastics, and pharmaceutical residue, just to name a few. RO Systems can also add back in critical minerals your body needs and that will improve the taste of the water. Just make sure you request it, as that is a specific cartridge.

For a 4200 sq/ft home for 6 people the system ran us around $4-5,000 and was installed prior to finishing our basement.

We have had this system for a few years now and it’s very low maintenance. Once per year, the company comes out to maintain the system and change the RO Filters, costs a few hundred dollars.
